Hearing Is Believing: How Virtual Reality Is Aligning Acoustical Design With Expectations

You rarely hear about the noise in a space unless it’s an issue, and when it is a problem, it’s generally a big problem. By leveraging an acoustic virtual reality system calibrated to the real world, you can ensure that the design of your space delivers on your expectations for sound.

Our Acoustics, Noise & Vibration Services

Acoustic Design

Our team of experts works to understand the goals of your building project, and translates that into precise, innovative, yet practical design solutions for all aspects of acoustic isolation, room acoustics, and building systems noise/vibration control. We collaborate with the rest of your design team to fully integrate acoustic requirements into every aspect of your space, whether new construction or renovation.

Structural Vibration Design

We provide design stage consulting and recommendations for minimizing structural vibration in building design. Typical applications include control of vibration for sensitive laboratory imaging equipment, or development of extremely low-noise environments where stray building vibration can radiate as audible noise.

Acoustic Assessment

We help clients ensure compliance with regulations or identify areas of acoustic concern in buildings and means of correcting them. Our comprehensive design services cover every area of the acoustic environment to the most exacting specifications. Room acoustic and sound insulation modelling are used to assist with the provision of practical and robust solutions. Our experienced testers can survey and commission buildings as required to ensure compliance with project design goals.

Construction Noise Monitoring

Our acousticians control and reduce noise impact by performing construction noise monitoring and mitigation planning services throughout all phases of a project’s development. The use of noise and vibration monitors on site helps clients stay within compliance of noise ordinances and regulations.

Environmental Noise/Vibration Analysis

We provide expert analysis of external, airborne noise or ground-borne vibration effects and how to mitigate them temporarily (construction sites) or permanently (traffic noise/rail lines/building equipment).

Vibration Assessment

The sure way to alleviate disruptive acoustic-related vibrations in buildings, structures, and construction sites is to assess, monitor, and mitigate vibrations.

Vibration Feasibility Studies

We offer a pre-design stage consulting service to help architects and builders determine if a proposed site meets the intended design criteria.

WELL/LEED/BREEAM/Green Star Acoustic Assessment

Yes, you can ensure speech privacy and low noise levels within the high-performance demands of sustainability. Our sound experts understand the science, engineering, and legal requirements needed to deliver superior results.

Acoustic Virtual Reality

Our acoustics specialty team provides an Acoustic Reality Studio (ARS) that changes the paradigm for communicating acoustic information during the design phase of a building project. Clients can listen to the impact of their design choices, eliminating the guesswork regarding how a space will sound. Using custom architectural models, our Acoustic Reality and Sound Simulation software allows sound to be heard at the design stage so that adjustments can be made until the sound is fine-tuned.

Our ARS services allow us to:

  • Supplement reports and recommendations with an authentic audio experience, providing experiential information for acoustic decision making
  • Use our clients’ architectural plans to create realistic and interactive sound field models
  • Listen in real-time, from any angle in the space
  • Swap surface finishes within the model and understand how each option affects the end user
  • Communicate the urgency of all choices using cutting-edge simulations before they are implemented
